Metcom

Teleport can currently connect to Metcom Bluebox (Blue2box) and Metcom MCS301 with the Modbus 350 module or 450 module. In the future, we will also add support for Metcom power meters that support the P1 Protocol. You can connect the Bluebox using Modbus TCP over ethernet (recommended) or Modbus RTU using the RS485 serial interface.

Bluebox

Warning

  • In order to connect to the Teleport, the Power meter needs to be DSMR 5.0 compliant. Please contact Metcom if the device needs an update.
  1. Connect the Bluebox to a laptop / PC, either directly through an ethernet cable or via a router. Follow the Bluebox manual to set the IP address of the Bluebox:
  • If the Bluebox is to be connected with a router, select Obtain an IP address automatically. Then, in the router's setting, give the Bluebox a static IP address. See our appendix for more information.
  • If the Bluebox is to be connected directly with the Teleport, check the IP address of the Bluebox is 192.168.4.1 and Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

Modbus TCP over ethernet

  1. Access the UI of the Bluebox by the IP address of the Bluebox. Go to Modbus Configuration. Make sure Modbus TCP Enabled is selected. Check the following settings:
  • Client Address: 7
  • Port: 502
  • Timeout: 5000
  • Start Position: 0
  • Empty Value: -1
  1. Connect the ethernet cable between the ETH1 port of the Teleport and the LAN port of the Bluebox. If the LAN port of the module is already occupied (e.g. connected to a router), navigate to our appendix for instructions on how to integrate with a router.

Modbus RTU over RS485

  1. Access the UI of the Bluebox by the IP address of the Bluebox. Go to Modbus Configuration. Make sure Modbus RTU Enabled is selected. Check the following settings:
  • Client Address: 7
  • Baudrate: 9600
  • Timeout: 5000
  • Start Position: 0
  • Empty Value: -1
  1. Connect the serial cable between the serial port of the Teleport and the serial port of the Bluebox.
