Fronius

The Teleport can connect to Fronius Inverters via Modbus TCP over Ethernet (recommended) or Modbus RTU over RS485. If the inverter(s) are fitted with a Fronius Datamanager 2.0, please use the ports on the Datamanager for RS485 and Ethernet connections. Please consult the official documentation for more detailed information on clustering and the Datamanager.

Modbus TCP over ethernet

  1. Connect an ethernet cable between the router and the Fronius asset, as well as between the router and the ETH1 port of the Teleport. Please navigate to our appendix for more instructions on how to integrate with a router.

  2. Navigate to the web interface of the inverter. In the menu, go to Communication and then to Modbus. Once there, input the following settings:

    • Modbus Port: 502
    • SunSpec Model Type: float
    • Inverter Control via Modbus: Enabled
    • DHCP: Enabled
  3. Configure the router to assign a static DHCP lease to the Fronius asset. Please inform us of the chosen IP address.

Connecting the asset directly to the Teleport

  1. Connect the ethernet cable between the ETH1 port of the Teleport and the LAN port of the Fronius asset.

  2. Navigate to the web interface of the inverter. In the menu, go to Communication and then to Modbus. Once there, input the following settings:

    • Modbus Port: 502
    • SunSpec Model Type: float
    • Inverter Control via Modbus: Enabled
    • IP: between 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.254
    • Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    • Gateway: 0.0.0.0 or leave empty
    • DNS: 0.0.0.0 or leave empty

Please inform us of the chosen IP address.

Modbus RTU over RS485

  1. Connect the serial cable between the serial port of the Teleport and the serial port of the master inverter (first inverter in case of cascading). Depending on the configuration, Teleport can connect to up to 3 strings of inverters.

  2. Navigate to the web interface of the inverter. In the menu, go to Communication and then to Modbus. Once there, confirm that the Inverter Control via Modbus is Enabled, and check the following default instructions:

    • Inverter Control via Modbus: Enabled
    • Baud rate: 9600
    • Start bit: 1
    • Data bits: 8
    • Parity: none
    • Stop bit: 1
  3. In the case of a single inverter, verify the DATCOM address is 1. In case of multiple inverters, please set each inverter in a string to a different address and let us know these addresses. This is necessary to ensure the correct functioning of the Teleport. The inverter address can be set using the display, following the Modbus Operating Instructions GEN24 inverters (or the Fronius Datamanager 2.0 Modbus RTU Quickstart Guide when using the Datamanager) from the official documentation.
