Monitoring
The Teleport device and the Teleport Cloud actively monitor the gateway device, all connected assets, configured active control strategies, and Data forwarders. Supported functions:
- Enabled by default on all Teleport devices, connected assets, active control strategies, and Data forwarders
- Notification via email (either automatic or after review by a Withthegrid engineer)
- Includes steps on how to remedy the issue
- Includes option to contact a Withthegrid engineer for assistance by replying to the email
Monitor categories
Devices
Cloud connectivity
- What: The Teleport Cloud monitors the connectivity of each Teleport device with the cloud.
- Trigger: Your device is disconnected from the Teleport Cloud for over 5 minutes.
- Notifications: Automatic email notification upon disconnection and upon reconnection.
Teleport reboots
- What: Optionally, the Teleport monitors core OS reboots to provide additional protection against device tampering. The device can then be remotely disabled by a Withthegrid engineer if tampering is suspected.
- Trigger: When enabled, any reboot of the Teleport device.
- Notifications: Email notification after review by a Withthegrid engineer.
Connected assets
Asset connectivity
- What: Monitors the connectivity between the Teleport and the connected asset.
- Trigger: The Teleport fails to read required parameters multiple times consecutively, or when readout speed drastically decreases.
- Notifications: Automatic email notification upon issue detection and resolution.
Asset responsiveness
- What: Monitors the responsiveness of controllable assets (like solar PV, wind, batteries, and EV) by comparing requested asset output with actual measurement values. It monitors both the speed and magnitude at which the asset responds, accounting for exceptions like solar position (for PV) and the current state of charge (for batteries).
- Trigger: A discrepancy is observed between requested and actual output.
- Notifications: Email notification after verification by a Withthegrid engineer.
Asset status
- What: Monitors if an asset is unexpectedly powered down, unavailable, or is displaying errors that may impact performance.
- Trigger: Asset reports being powered down, unavailable, or displays certain error codes.
- Notifications: Automatic email with error descriptions. More detail on the error and steps to resolve can be found in the
Error codes
section on the Data Forwarding page.
Active control strategies
Grid limit exceedance
- What: When an active control strategy is used to adhere to contractual or physical grid limits, the Teleport monitors those limits.
- Trigger: The configured limit is exceeded.
- Notifications: Email notification after review by a Withthegrid engineer, potentially including analysis of the cause.
Control loop health
- What: Continuously checks the health of the active control loop by monitoring control loop speed and availability of connected assets.
- Trigger: An anomaly is detected in control loop speed or asset availability.
- Notifications: Email notification.
State of charge
- What: Optionally, when a battery system is used for peak shaving, monitors if the system goes outside a predefined state of charge range.
- Trigger: Battery state of charge is outside the predefined range.
- Notifications: Email notification (when optionally configured).
Data forwarders
Message delivery
- What: Monitors the success of forwarding reporting messages to a configured destination when the Teleport is configured to do so.
- Trigger: Delivery of a message is unsuccessful multiple times consecutively.
- Notifications: Automatic email notification upon issue detection and resolution.
API
API management
- What: Monitors whether the API services are working as expected.
- Trigger: Detection of an API service disruption.
- Notifications: An incident will be created on our status page.
