Fronius
The Teleport can connect to Fronius Inverters via Modbus TCP over Ethernet (recommended) or Modbus RTU over RS485. If the inverter(s) are fitted with a Fronius Datamanager 2.0, please use the ports on the Datamanager for RS485 and Ethernet connections. Please consult the official documentation for more detailed information on clustering and the Datamanager.

Configuring the datamanager (if present)
- Open the web UI of the Fronius Datamanager by going to it’s IP address in the browser.
- Go the the Settings and Modbus menu and configure the following properties
- Data export via Modbus: select
tcp
orrtu
, and follow the related inverter settings below. - Sunspec model type:
float
- Inverter control via Modbus: enabled
- Data export via Modbus: select
- Click on the checkmark to save the settings.
Optional extra step for fallback configuration
The fallback configuration makes use of the I/O control functionality of the Datamanager as the Datamanager has no direct fallback. This makes use of the I/O control and the priorities of control via Modbus and I/O control.
- Go to the Settings and IO mapping menu.
- Enable the
IO control
section. - In
IO control 1
, select one of the free pins, This should be a pin that is not physically connected, e.g.Pin 0
. - Click on the checkmark to save the settings.
- Go to the Settings and DNO editor menu.
- Under the IO control section, configure the following settings.
- unlocked: checked for the first row, and only that row.
- Input pattern:
I1
configured forpin open
. Click on theI1
box to change the mode. - Active power: checked and the desired fallback percentage entered
- Power factor cosφ: unchecked.
- DNO output: unchecked.
- excluded inverter(s): leave empty.
- Under the Controlling priorities section, set the following order.
Controlling via Modbus
IO control
Dynamic power reduction
- Click on the checkmark to save the settings.

Modbus TCP over ethernet
Connecting via a router (recommended)
-
Connect an ethernet cable between the router and the Fronius asset, as well as between the router and the ETH1 port of the Teleport. Please navigate to our appendix for more instructions on how to integrate with a router.
-
Navigate to the web interface of the inverter. In the menu, go to Communication and then to Modbus. Once there, input the following settings:
- Modbus Port:
502
- SunSpec Model Type:
float
- Inverter Control via Modbus:
Enabled
- DHCP:
Enabled
- Modbus Port:
-
Configure the router to assign a static DHCP lease to the Fronius asset. Please inform us of the chosen IP address.
Connecting the asset directly to the Teleport
-
Connect the ethernet cable between the ETH1 port of the Teleport and the LAN port of the Fronius asset.
-
Navigate to the web interface of the inverter. In the menu, go to Communication and then to Modbus. Configure the following settings, with values as described in Static IPs for a direct asset connection.
- Modbus Port:
502
- SunSpec Model Type:
float
- Inverter Control via Modbus:
Enabled
- IP
- Subnet Mask
- Gateway
- DNS:
0.0.0.0
or leave empty
- Modbus Port:
Please inform us of the chosen IP address.
Modbus RTU over RS485
-
Connect the serial cable between the serial port of the Teleport and the serial port of the master inverter (first inverter in case of cascading). Depending on the configuration, Teleport can connect to up to 3 strings of inverters.
-
Navigate to the web interface of the inverter. In the menu, go to Communication and then to Modbus. Once there, confirm that the Inverter Control via Modbus is Enabled, and check the following default instructions:
- Inverter Control via Modbus:
Enabled
- Baud rate:
9600
- Start bit:
1
- Data bits:
8
- Parity:
none
- Stop bit:
1
- Inverter Control via Modbus:
-
In the case of a single inverter, verify the DATCOM address is
1
. In case of multiple inverters, please set each inverter in a string to a different address and let us know these addresses. This is necessary to ensure the correct functioning of the Teleport. The inverter address can be set using the display, following the Modbus Operating Instructions GEN24 inverters (or the Fronius Datamanager 2.0 Modbus RTU Quickstart Guide when using the Datamanager) from the official documentation.
