SolarEdge

The Teleport can connect to all SolarEdge inverters and loggers which support SunSpec protocol, e.g. SE100K. You can connect using Modbus TCP over ethernet (recommended) or Modbus RTU using the RS485 serial interface. The configuration can also be done using the SetApp which is not covered by this installation guide.

Supported models
  • All inverters
  • SolarEdge Commercial Gateway
  • SolarEdge Firefighter Gateway

Use the LCD light button to navigate the menu. A short press, one second, scrolls to the next menu options and changes values. A long press, three seconds, selects an item or confirms a value.

Modbus TCP over Ethernet with RS485 slave inverters

The Teleport is connected to a master inverter or SolarEdge Commercial Gateway (SCG) via an ethernet cable. This can be done via a router (solid line in diagram) or directly (dashed line in diagram). The master inverter or SCG is connected via RS485 to a string of slave inverters.

Note that when the assets have already been commissioned using this connection type and are currently being monitored using the SolarEdge portal, the RS485 Device ID of each slave inverter is likely stil set to 0. This will have to be changed to a unique value.

Connection instructions

Configure Modbus TCP over ethernet on master inverter/SolarEdge Commercial Gateway (SCG)

  1. Log in to the master inverter or SCG settings (via the LCD screen or the Solaredge SetApp)

  2. Navigate to the RS485-1 configuration menu

  3. Select protocol: SolarEdge Leader

  4. Select device type: SolarEdge or SE

  5. Navigate to the Communication menu

  6. Navigate to Server and change the setting to LAN

  7. Navigate to LAN Conf, select the menu and set Modbus TCP: Enable

    • If the master inverter or SCG is connected to a router:
    1. Set DHCP: Enable. - Make sure you give the inverter a static IP-address in the router settings.
    2. Modbus TCP: Enable
    • If the master inverter or SCG is not connected to a router and the Teleport is directly connected to the master inverter or SCG:
    1. Set DHCPDisable

    2. Set IP192.168.0.10

    3. Set Mask255.255.255.0

    4. Set Gateway0.0.0.0 or leave the value empty

    5. Set DNS0.0.0.0 or leave the value empty

    6. Modbus TCP: Enable

Configure Modbus RTU over RS485 on slave inverters

For each inverter, including the master inverter or SCG, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to the inverter settings (via the LCD screen or the Solaredge SetApp)

  2. Navigate to the Communication menu

  3. Navigate to RS485–1 Conf, select the menu and configure the following items:

    1. Set Device ID: to a number that is unique for the all inverters

    2. Set Device typeSolarEdge or SE

Configure Modbus Follower list

After updating the RS485 device IDs of each inverter, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to the master inverter or SCG settings (via the LCD screen or the Solaredge SetApp)

  2. Navigate to RS485–1 Conf, select the menu and select Follower detect.
When finished, the Follower list should include all devices connected to the master inverter or SCG.

    • If not, please check the connections of the communication cable, the RS485 settings of the inverters and try again.

Share the installation data

After following the steps above, we will perform a Site Acceptance Test. To do this, we will need the following information:

  • The IP-address of each master inverter or SCG
  • The Device ID of each inverter (including the master inverter or SCG). This is the Device ID set in the RS485 setting, not the serial number of the inverter.

Modbus RTU via RS485

The Teleport is connected to a master inverter or SCG via an RS485 cable. The master inverter or SCG can still be separately connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable.

Connection instructions

Configure Modbus RTU over RS485 connection to master inverter

  1. Log in to the master inverter settings (via the LCD screen or the Solaredge SetApp)

  2. Navigate to the Communication menu.

  3. Navigate to RS485–2 Conf, select the menu and configure the following items.

    1. Set Device ID: to a number that is unique for the all inverters, this number should be the same as the Device ID in the RS485-1 conf.
    2. Set Device type: Sunspec

Configure Modbus RTU over RS485

For each inverter, including the master inverter, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to the master inverter settings (via the LCD screen or the Solaredge SetApp)

  2. Navigate to the Communication menu.

  3. Navigate to RS485–1 Conf, select the menu and configure the following items:

    1. Set Device ID: to a number that is unique for the all inverters

    2. Set Device typeSolarEdge or SE

Configure Modbus Follower list

After changing the RS485 device ID’s of each inverter, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in to the master inverter settings (via the LCD screen or the Solaredge SetApp)

  2. Navigate to RS485–1 Conf, select the menu and select Follower detect. The Master inverter will now search for all connected follower inverter. When finished, the Follower list should include all devices connected to the string.

    • If not, please check the connections of the communication cable, the RS485 settings of the inverters and check again.
